All patients deserve opportunities to prevent illness and preserve their health, to truly know and understand their diagnoses, to be familiar with treatment options so they can fully participate in health decisions, and to be empowered to establish a team of clinicians who are unified in protecting their long-term health. These goals should be fulfilled between patients and physicians in relationships characterized by empathy and trust. Critically, we all know our parents bequeathed to us a better healthcare system than they enjoyed 30 years ago. In my perspective, each generation must actively invest in making the world better. Therefore, every patient should be provided with opportunities to participate in “best of class” clinical research, potentially benefiting themselves, other current and future patients, their families, and the community in which we live.
