My approach to teaching mind-body skills is to help patients learn to cultivate relaxation, free up energy, and train the attention to focus on the present. A session might include breathing practices, loosening exercises, yoga, tai chi, qi gong, shaking, self-massage, conscious relaxation and/or meditation to stimulate and relax the body. My aim is to help patients restore clear focused energy in body and mind. I tailor sessions to suit the patients’ interest and needs and offer both individual and group sessions. I have a strong interest in helping patients cultivate a personal practice and find individual sessions best suited for this purpose.
The positive psychology training builds on the foundation of clarity, openness and heightened awareness that the body-based practices create. I offer group positive psychology sessions to help patients recognize unhelpful thinking patterns and generate alternatives. The aim is to provide patients with skills to cultivate healthy habits of mind like mindfulness, self-compassion, gratitude, and a focus on strengths.
