Watching my grandmother struggle with cancer opened my eyes to the ever-lasting effects of disease. It also helped me understand and appreciate how necessary it is for those suffering from these diseases to have a strong support system, not only in the form of family, but also the doctors and nurses that treat them. It is the duty of a doctor to ensure an atmosphere of hope and to treat a patient with kindness and this is a duty I take most seriously. With open lines of communication with their care team, a patient can better understand their unique situation and this can help them make difficult decisions that are necessary for their well-being. I believe in having a thorough and detailed dialogue with each of my patients to ensure they understand what they are facing and what options they have moving forward. This allows us to provide the patient with the best care possible.
