The patient experience is at the heart of everything we do. Specifically, we focus on:
- Communicating with our patients and families with courtesy and respect
- Using active listening and explaining things to patients with simple, clear language
- Communicating with others on the care team to better coordinate patient care
- Improving the way we help our patients manage pain
To measure the experience of our patients, we use surveys so that our patients and their families can tell us about their experience. The graphs below show the percentage of University of Minnesota Health patients that responded “always” to the questions regarding our overall rating of our hospital, communication with doctors and nurses, and how well we managed the patient’s pain.
