For 33 years, the Turtle Derby at University of Minnesota Masonic Children’s Hospital has been a popular tradition, raising funds for programming that benefits our patients and their families.
The 2019 derby event will be held from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. on Thursday, June 20, on the hospital grounds. In case of rain or adverse weather, the event will be held from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. on Friday, June 21.
The event will include a dunk tank, games, turtle merchandise, food and—of course—races to determine which turtle will be crowned “Grandest Turtle of All.”
The Turtle Derby is open to the public. Past derbies have funded the purchase of hearing aid support supplies, end-of-life memory-making activities, books, anxiety-reducing toys for our pediatric clinics, musical instruments, artwork for our patient rooms, and a variety of other items used directly by our patients and families.
Current inpatients and clinic patients and their families may park in the Green garage, located underneath the University of Minnesota Masonic Children’s Hospital building (intersection of 25th Avenue and 7th Street). Reduced rate valet parking is available at the entrance of the hospital. Parking for all others is available in the Blue surface lot and Red and Yellow parking ramps. Free parking may be found on local streets. For reduced parking rates in the Blue surface lot or Red and Yellow ramps, bring your parking ticket to the reception desk in the hospital to be validated.
