FREE SmartPhone Application

Help Your Child Feel Prepared

Discover Passport to University of Minnesota Masonic Children’s Hospital, the smartphone app designed to help patients and families prepare for their healthcare experience.

Created by certified child life specialists, the app gives patients, their families and healthcare providers access to child-friendly information on common medical procedures, tips on preparing for a hospital stay and resources for families. This tool empowers parents and healthcare providers to better support children, engaging them in an age-appropriate learning experience.

The app includes five sections:

  • Virtual Tours: See what our hospital looks like.
  • Procedure Preparation: Learn about an upcoming procedure.
  • Family Resources: Find helpful resources for families.
  • Preparing for Your Hospital Stay: Discover what to know before coming to the hospital.
  • The Coloring Board: Color, draw and explore body systems.

This app can also be used by patients, families and caregivers outside of University of Minnesota Masonic Children’s Hospital. The Procedure Preparation section, Family Resources section and Coloring Board are universal tools designed to be useful for children everywhere.

Some of the things that children can do with the app are:

  • Learn about an upcoming blood draw.
  • Hear what an MRI machine sounds like.
  • Find out what’s available in the Family Resource Center.
  • Show family members what a hospital room looks like.
  • Read about what to pack to spend the night in the hospital.

In addition, parents and caregivers can find helpful tips on how to help children take medicine and siblings can learn about a fun program called Sibshops!
