Give stock

Gifts of appreciated stocks, bonds, or mutual fund shares provide immediate support for University of Minnesota Masonic Children’s Hospital while providing you with tax benefits. By giving appreciated securities held for more than a year, you avoid capital gains tax that would be due upon sale and may receive a charitable income tax deduction for the current fair market value of the property, subject to applicable limitations.

Give through your will or trust

Including a gift in your will or living trust is a meaningful and flexible way to support the hospital. You can give a specific dollar amount, specific property, or a percentage of what remains after you’ve provided for your loved ones. You also maintain control of your assets during your lifetime and can change your plans at any time.

Give retirement assets

Naming University of Minnesota Masonic Children’s Hospital as a beneficiary of your tax-deferred retirement account allows these assets to pass tax-free, so the full value of your gift will support the hospital. If transferred to your heirs, these assets are subject to income tax and possibly estate tax. Like a gift in your will or trust, a gift of retirement assets can be changed at any time.

Below is information you may use to designate University of Minnesota Masonic Children’s Hospital as a beneficiary of your estate through your will, trust, retirement account, life insurance, or other financial account:

Share your gift plans with us

If you’ve already included a gift to our hospital in your estate plan, thank you! We encourage you to tell us about your gift. This does not create a binding commitment, and any information you provide about your gift will be kept confidential. By sharing your gift, you ensure that the U of M Foundation knows to direct your gift to the area you wish to support.

Make a tax-free gift from your IRA

The CARES Act suspended required minimum distributions from retirement accounts for 2020. However, IRA owners who are age 70½ or older can still make a qualified charitable distribution from their IRA to charity and avoid the income tax that would otherwise be due on the distribution. This option provides tax benefits even if you do not itemize deductions. Learn more

Make a gift that provides income

Several gift options can provide you or others with income for life, with the remainder used to benefit the hospital. These gifts can also provide significant tax benefits, especially if you use appreciated assets to fund your gift.
