Becoming a Volunteer

Make a Difference Today

We invite you to help make a difference in the lives of our patients and families by becoming a volunteer at University of Minnesota Medical Center and University of Minnesota Masonic Children's Hospital. Volunteers must be at least 18 years old and out of high school. If you have any questions about volunteering, call Volunteer Services at 612-273-6565.

Getting Started

Thank you for your interest in becoming a volunteer at MHealth.  Here’s how to get involved.

  1. Read the instructions and complete the online application form.  Once your completed application is received, you’ll be sent a link to sign up for a group interview and information session.
  2. Attend the group interview and information session with a volunteer coordinator.
  3. At this meeting, you’ll be given information about next steps to become a volunteer:

a)    Complete an onsite pre-placement health assessment.

b)    Pass a criminal background check, including fingerprinting, as currently mandated by the State of Minnesota Department of Human Services. This may include traveling to an off-site location for fingerprinting.

c)    Complete new volunteer online orientation and training.

We are no longer accepting volunteer applications for spring 2020. Please check back in April.
*Please note: We are accepting applications for Integrative Therapies and Pet Therapy. Call Volunteer Services at 612-273-6565 if you are certified in either of these areas.

time commitment

Volunteers commit to a consistent weekly 3 or 4-hour shift for a 100-hour minimum commitment. Summer-only volunteers commit to 75 hours during June, July and August.
