Colonoscopy is performed in our sedation suite or in the operating room to provide your child a painless and comfortable procedure. Child Family Life providers are available to explain the procedure in our clinics and to provide support and distraction at the time of the procedure. We perform both routine and advanced procedures, offering the latest instruments with high-resolution imaging capabilities. If a colonoscopy suggests that additional intervention is necessary, our pediatric gastroenterologists work with a team of pediatric radiologists and pediatric surgeons to determine the best course of treatment for your child.
Before the colonoscopy, you and your child will be given instructions on how to prepare and cleanse his or her colon to make it easy for the physician to see the inside. This usually involves dietary changes and medications. On the day of the exam, your child will receive sedation through an IV. The entire procedure takes about 30 minutes.
