On Jan. 17, the Minnesota Department of Health declared the flu to be widespread across the state.
To protect our patients and prevent the further spread of the illness, University of Minnesota Health has temporarily implemented enhanced visitor restrictions at University of Minnesota Medical Center (both East and West Banks) and University of Minnesota Masonic Children’s Hospital.
The temporary visitor policies began on Monday, Jan. 21, 2019, and will remain in place until flu season is over.
To ensure the safety of our patients, we ask that children under the age of 5 and anyone experiencing cold- or flu-like symptoms refrain from visiting the hospital. In addition, those with symptoms of a communicable disease or those who have recently been exposed to a communicable disease to which they are susceptible should not visit.
Our care providers and hospital staff may screen visitors who appear to be ill. If a visitor is displaying symptoms, our providers may offer respiratory masks or ask the visitor to postpone his or her visit.
