For Britta Johnson, Superhero Day at University of Minnesota Masonic Children’s Hospital is all about celebrating the people in her life who support her.
“My superhero is my mom,” she said. “She’s super supportive and she’s always been there for me.”
Britta, a Child-Family Life Services intern, was one of the dozens of doctors, nurses, patients and families celebrating Superhero Day 2018 at the hospital. The annual event at the hospital is a chance to recognize the heroes among us, including our patients and their families—and the hospital staff who care for them.
Patients and families at the hospital got to hang out, dance and celebrate with their favorite caped crusaders while also training to be superheroes themselves with athletic trainers from Alchemy 365. There was even a lip-sync battle.
“I love superhero day,” said Kaitlyn Schoenbauer, also a Child-Family Life intern. “It’s been really cool to see kids get to do all this fun stuff and dress up in capes and masks.”
In addition to dancing, patients and families were able to make their own superhero shields, get their faces painted and take photos with their favorite costumed heroes—including Goldy Gopher and a giant chili pepper representing Chili’s Bar & Grill.
Superhero Day is made possible thanks to donations and services from a group of generous sponsors, including Chili’s, Alchemy365, Cornerstone Parking and others.
