We’ll have all that and more at the University of Minnesota Health exhibit at the 2017 Minnesota State Fair. Scroll down for our complete schedule of health-related displays and activities. All events are located within the Health Zone exhibit, which is housed in the University of Minnesota Central building. The building is two blocks west of gate 5 on Dan Patch Avenue on the Minnesota State Fairgrounds.

University of Minnesota Health Heart Care
9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 30

Want to see a human heart? The University of Minnesota Health Heart Care team will be at the Fair to teach visitors about the anatomy of the heart and the long-term effects of heart disease. Fair-goers can chat with heart experts, see the latest technologies for patients with advanced heart failure and—yes—even see a real human heart specimen.

Do you know the risk factors for aortic aneurysms? Many aortic aneurysms are often completely symptom-free until they burst—making them difficult to detect. The University of Minnesota Health Aortic Center team will be at the Fair to discuss the importance of screenings and aneurysm prevention.

Let’s defeat cancer! This year at the fair University of Minnesota Health Cancer Care and the Masonic Cancer Center, University of Minnesota want all Minnesotans to learn about treatment and prevention for disease that affects nearly half of the state’s population. Discover leading-edge treatments, meet the doctors and scientists researching the latest breakthroughs and ask experts your questions.

We’re also inviting all cancer survivors to stop by and share their story about their fight with cancer in our video booth.

At the booth this year:

  • Free skin and oral cancer screenings
  • Become a scientist for a day; try out lab tools
  • Learn more about our tobacco, broccoli sprout and puppy food cancer research
  • Find out how to stay healthy before, during and after a cancer diagnosis
  • Participate in interactive presentations throughout the day on the University of Minnesota stage—including Q&A sessions with the experts

When it comes to healthy weight loss, there’s plenty of misinformation out there. Get the facts from the M Health Weight Loss Management and Surgery program. Team members will be on site to address misconceptions about fad diets and discuss common issues such as proper hydration, calories in beverages and portion control.

University of Minnesota Health Kidney Stones
3 p.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 2

Kidney stones can be a painful experience. That’s why M Health urologists and nephrologists will be on hand to explain how the kidney functions, why stones form and how to prevent and treat kidney stones. Attendees will be able to handle an endoscope and even see actual kidney stones from humans and animals.

University of Minnesota Health Neurosciences Day
9 a.m. to 9 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 3

Yes, you really can come see an actual human brain. Our University of Minnesota Health Neurosurgery and Neurology teams are made up of a variety of experts, whose specialties range from neurosurgery and neuromodulation to stroke care and memory. Those experts offer a full spectrum of care for your brain and nervous system and they’ll be on hand to talk about our services at the Fair. We have activities for the whole family at the exhibit, including a prize wheel!

University of Minnesota Health Mother’s and Children’s Health Day
9 a.m. to 9 p.m., Monday, Sept. 4
Health Zone at University of Minnesota Building
It’s Kids Day at the Minnesota State Fair, and we’re showing fairgoers how University of Minnesota Health cares for moms, babies, children, teenagers and young adults. Visitors can meet members of our nationally recognized care teams and learn about our clinics that provide everyday care—as well as the highest-level specialty care when needed. Participants include: Maternal-Fetal Medicine, the Birthplace at University of Minnesota Masonic Children’s Hospital, Neonatal Intensive Care (NICU), University of Minnesota Masonic Children’s Hospital and our neighborhood pediatric specialty care clinics. Come test your knowledge with us and win a prize!
