Turtles, start your engines!

The 30th annual Turtle Derby returns to University of Minnesota Masonic Children’s Hospital from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Thursday, June 23. Attendees can cheer on racing turtles as they compete against one another on the plaza outside the children’s hospital for the coveted Turtle Derby title: The Grandest Turtle of All.

In addition to the races, participants can enjoy face-painting, a photo booth, games with prizes, refreshments, a dunk tank, therapy dogs and more. The Turtle Derby is free and open to the public, though parking, food and some activities have a small cost.

The fundraiser provides many of the extras that make our children's hospital a healing place for our patients and families. It’s not too late to sponsor a turtle in the race. The deadline for turtle race registration is June 14.

Past events have funded the purchase of hearing aid support supplies, end-of-life memory-making activities, books, anxiety reducing toys and items for our pediatric clinics, musical instruments, artwork for our patient rooms and a variety of other items used directly by our patients and families.

Parking is available at several ramps located near or adjacent to the children’s hospital.
