University of Minnesota students return to campus on Aug. 26 and 27, 2019, which means patients and family members visiting the University of Minnesota Medical Center campus or the Clinics and Surgery Center on those days should plan for slow-downs and extra traffic.
Student move-in times are scheduled between 1 p.m. and 8 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 26, and between 9 a.m. and 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 27. Expect high-traffic volumes on Fulton Street SE, between SE Huron Blvd. and Oak Street SE. The greatest congestion will likely occur between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. on Tuesday. The increased traffic may also affect our shuttle service between facilities.
Please allow for extra time in your schedule when you head to campus for your appointment, as you may experience delays. We recommend that patients and visitors use the University Avenue SE exit from Interstate 35W instead of the SE Huron Blvd. exit on Interstate 94.
Additionally, patients traveling to the University of Minnesota Health Ophthalmology Clinic in the Phillips-Wangensteen Building (PWB) may want to consider using University Avenue SE to enter the campus:
Because extra parking spots will be needed for students and families, all patients are strongly encouraged to take advantage of our valet parking services at the University of Minnesota Medical Center or Clinics and Surgery Center entrances. Ophthalmology Clinic patients can use our valet services at the main University of Minnesota Medical Center – East Bank Hospital entrance.
If you have questions, please contact your clinic directly.
