Student move-in day may affect parking, traffic on University of Minnesota campus

Patients visiting University of Minnesota Medical Center and the Clinics and Surgery Center should expect high traffic volumes during the University of Minnesota’s student move-in days on Aug. 27 or 28.

University of Minnesota students return to campus on Aug. 27 and 28, 2018, which means patients and family members visiting the University of Minnesota Medical Center campus or the Clinics and Surgery Center those days should plan for slow-downs and extra traffic.

Student move-in times are scheduled between noon and 8 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 27, and between 8 a.m. and 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 28. Expect high-traffic volumes on Fulton Street SE, between Huron and Oak Streets SE. The greatest congestion will likely occur between 10 a.m. and 3p.m. on Tuesday.

Please add extra time to your schedule when you head to campus for your appointment, as you may experience delays. We recommend using the University Avenue exit traveling on Highway 35W instead of the Huron exit on Highway 94.

Because extra parking spots will be needed for students and families, all patients are strongly encouraged to take advantage of our valet parking services at the University of Minnesota Medical Center or Clinics and Surgery Center entrances. Valet for the Phillips-Wangensteen Building is located at the main hospital entrance on the East Bank. If you have questions, please contact your clinic directly or call 612-273-8383.
